Photos of San Marino

The third-smallest state in Europe and the world’s oldest republic, San Marino is one of the few countries in the world to display its UNESCO World Heritage site on its flag – a site that includes the three castles built on the country’s highest point, Mount Titano, which is 739 m (2,425 ft) above sea level. Mount Titano is part of the Apennine Mountains, and the three castles -- Guaita, Cesta, and Montale -- sit on its three peaks and have helped guard the country for the past several centuries.
